ABC of Central Michigan has a long history of service.

It was founded originally in March of 1962 as the Contractors and Suppliers Association of Central Michigan on the belief of freedom to do business in the construction field. This organization continued as a local independent association until 1967 when it affiliated as a Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.

During the mid - 1970's, ABC of Central Michigan established construction apprentice programs and offered training in upward of 12 different crafts in the late 1980's. However, due to economic conditions and changes in leadership many of these programs were eliminated in the early 1990's. Between 1991 and 1993 the apprentice training programs offered through ABC of Central Michigan were reorganized and began to use the “Wheels of Learning” training materials offered through the National Center for Construction Education and Research.

Currently, ABC of Central Michigan offers apprentice training in Electrical, Carpentry and HVAC several other apprentice programs are currently under development. With the addition of new classrooms and hands on lab, ABC Central Michigan provides quality apprentice training to the Chapter members. In addition to career training for craft employees, ABC of Central Michigan continues to develop and offer training to management staff and owners. Our belief is that by providing training opportunities, members of the Central Michigan Chapter will survive and grow in this prosperous but highly competitive market.

ABC of Central Michigan continues to research and develop programs that will increase the members bottom line as well as assisting members coping with problems from organized labor.
Today, ABC of Central Michigan is returning to the growth of the past with our sights set on continued member growth while increasing services to members. Our focus will be to promote the Merit Shop Philosophy to non-members and to live our mission and vision statements. ABC of Central Michigan, is working to provide a positive message about merit shop in the Mid Michigan region. Over the course of the next several months, visibility of ABC and Merit shop will increase through the use of various media outlets and venues.
